Show Guidelines

At Blazzin' The Mic !  Our live  shows are what we hope to be a positive place for Poets and lovers of poetry to gather and enjoy ourselves. Here are a few simple guidelines that make the evenings poetic vibe flow.
Blazzin' The Mic! Is a rated EL- Explicit Language show. All genres of poetry and all Poets welcome.
What will NOT be welcome are any pieces containing hate. Should you find yourself muted during a piece such as this, it will be at the sole discretion of the show host. Expression is one thing, hate filled derogatory filled musings are another. Blazzin' The Mic! May not be the appropriate place for you to share.
Though not necessary you may want to create a Talkshoe.com account to that you may be easily identified. Talkshoe does not recognize callers by their phone numbers but by location. If you are calling from New York, there may be 5 other Poets calling from New York as well. Create an account! It's fast and easy!
1. The shows will usually start at 10pm EST generally scheduled for 2 hours but Blazzin' The Mic always goes over. We stay until the last Poet spits! We're always happy to give the Poets a platform to promote themselves and this is usually done at the start of the show. There is more time to speak in depth with everyone at the start of the show while everyone is drifting into the room.
If you join the call later of course we still want to know what you're working on, but there will be less time  and you may need to simply provide links to be shared in the chat room etc...
2. At Blazzin' The Mic! You are in cue to recite a piece from the moment you get on the line not when you arrive in the chat room. We make no assumptions that you want to recite just because you are a Poet and are in the chat room. You need to be on the line before you will be placed in cue and that will be in the order you come on the line as well.
There will also be no " holding of spots". Everyone's time is valuable ,so with that being said, kick back enjoy your fellow Poets work and your turn will be up soon. We realize that it can take awhile, it's one of the reasons at Blazzin' The Mic! we have our visiting Poets do two pieces back to back. Why wait all that time to spit one piece ? Give us two when it's your turn. Arrangements can be made with the show host prior to the call if you are under serious time constraints.( Example- Calling in from work........not that you have to get up for work in the morning mind you! )
3. Respect the chat room and your fellow Poets please. Any Poet regardless of if you've been reciting 2 months or 20 years is welcome to blazze our mic. Unless a Poet asks for your constructive feedback ( which they have been know to do ) keep any type of negativity to yourself please.
Any personal issues/problems you may have with anyone else visiting the chat room needs to be discussed elsewhere.
4. Blazzin' The Mic! previously had a format where everyone was unmuted and able to communicate with each Poet after a recite but this has recently changed due to callers not muting themselves. Should we unmute lines due to any variety of reasons, please utilize your MUTE button .
5. At Blazzin' The Mic! You are free to recite two pieces back to back if you choose. We realize some poets work is longer than others. If you choose to recite one of your pieces at a later time during the show, feel free, though do so knowing that the only available time will be at the END of the show. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please understand that other Poets are still waiting to recite so they will not be kept waiting any longer to put you back in rotation when your turn has passed.
6. Each show may vary in crowd size, though to keep the show progressing smoothly, please have the work you are going to recite during the show pulled up and ready to go. We will do our best during the show to give you an idea of when your turn may be coming up. If your work is written down, have your composition books ready, if it's posted on a particular website, please have it pulled up and ready to recite. If you are called and your work is not ready, we will move on to the next Poet in cue to recite and after they are done ,we will come back to you.
